I just finished reading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Don't ask me how I got a copy, but remember that the world headquarters of Border's is in Ann Arbor and my wife knows everybody. I'm not usually one to reveal spoilers to people (unless they are fake ones), but I figured it's close enough to the release date to let out a few secrets.
Here is your WARNING, if you don't want to know what happens in the book then STOP READING NOW. OK, now that we got rid of those people, here's the big three spoilers you've been waiting for:
- This is by far the darkest Harry Potter book. There are lots of deaths, more than the one or two that has been hinted at. I think there was a tie for the saddest death. I couldn't decide if it was the heroic Hagrid, or Hermione's passing that brought more tears. I won't get into how they died (I should leave some surprises), but keep the tissue box nearby.
- Everyone wants to know what happens in the final showdown between Harry and Voldemort. I have to say I was a bit disappointed by it. Harry's about to die, and a house elves storm in and kill Voldemort and save Harry. You'd think he would be able to do it on his own.
- Lastly, and this is the big one. The story doesn't end. Rowling left it wide open for another series. I was hoping for closure, but that's not what I got. It turns out Dumbledore had a Horcrux, but he's evil. It looks like the next books will focus on Harry battling Dumbledore, but without Hermione and Ron.
That's it. Even with those spoilers you should be able to enjoy the book. If not, don't blame me. I gave you a warning.
