Job Posting Crashes Monster.com

By Brian Briggs

New York - A job posting by Foostek on Monster.com for a "Marketing Research Associate" crashed monster.com as recently laid off dot com employees flooded the site with more traffic than it could handle.

The posting read:

Marketing Research Associate - Leading foosball table manufacturer requires marketing research professional to utilize the internet to spot trends in the 13-25 year old demographic.  Position requires knowledge of foosball, advanced player desired but not required.  Job will require several hours online each day, in chat rooms, message boards, etc.  Must be willing to work flexible hours, late nights online are required.  No travel necessary. Salary range $45,000-$65,000 depending on experience.

"We're not a very technologically savvy company, so we needed someone here who can surf the internet and spot trends for us among the young people.   The last person in that position helped us develop the Backstreet Boys Table which was our hottest seller last year" said Foostek President Juan DeCarlo.

FoosballFoostek received over 365,000 applications in the 12 minutes the job was posted. Monster.com's servers were unable to handle the extreme load.

Recently employment challenged workers in silicon valley couldn't believe their eyes when they found the posting.  "I read about the posting on the Fucked Company message boards and I thought I'd died and gone to heaven.  A foosball playing internet surfer?" said ex-pets.com employee Devin McGregor, "These people know me."

Mr. DeCarlo said that while he received a large volume of applications most of them were very similar.  He read from one of the typical responses, "At my most recent position at reel.com, I spent most of my time playing foosball and surfing the internet.  I was also willing to work late if somebody needed an opponent, or if some surfing needed to be done.  I believe these skills make me uniquely qualified for this position."

"We've never had a job posting crash our site before," said Monster.com's VP of marketing Karn Sanchez, the closest we ever came to that happening was when Sarah Michelle Gellar needed a personal assistant."
