Link Whore Arrested

By Brian Briggs

Palmdale, CA - Police apprehended Trey Hoskins, the web master of humor site KornyToes, on multiple counts of link whoring.

"It's considered victimless crime by most of society so usually we look the other way," said Officer Bev Griffin, "but this was a case where the perp went too far.  As an example look at this story he used to solicit a Slashdot link:

Anime Linux Robots Devour Evil Microsoft Code on Open Source Mars Colony while Transmetans Defend Privacy Rights for Red-Hatted Apache Cryptographers.  Meanwhile on Planet Hellmouth where Quantum Flux was Discovered, Perl Programming Nanobots Crush the Napsterian Rebellion by the Gnutellans.

And that was just the headline."

Pandering to other sites in his stories wasn't the only instrument in his link whoring tool box.  Trey was also the master of the reciprocal link whoring.  Take a look at this snippet from one of his stories and its abhorrent use of links:

The potato was really hot, so I dropped it in her pants and she made FRENCH FRIES!!!!!!!

This blatant misuse of links is in clear violation of the link whoring statute.

Jay Stile of The Stile Project who filed charges against Mr. Hoskins said, "He kept sending me emails every hour saying he had linked to me, and begging for a link to his crappy little site.  I got so sick of it that I had to turn him in.  That man gives link whoring a bad name."

Other webmasters had similar stories.  Kyle Bennett of HardOCP said, "If I ever meet that pole in person he'd get the fraggin' of his life."

And Treat Warland of SatireWire added, "I don't know why he was bugging me for a link.  My site doesn't even get any hits."
