Washington D.C. - The Supreme Court reversed their decision to stop
the recounts in Florida saying their original ruling was "just
a joke." The recounts have restarted and the winner of
the election is once again in doubt. According to sources
close to the Justices, Justice O'Connor was supposed to tell everyone
it was a practical joke before the concession speech was made, but
in her words "better late than never."
"That
Clarence [Thomas] is such a practical joker, it was his idea. You
should see what he can do with a Coke can," said Justice David
Souter. "Ruthy [Ginsburg] was a little pissed, but us
guys got a kick out of it."
This is the second time the Supreme Court has reversed a ruling
as a practical joke. The first time was in 1992 when they
threw out Roe vs. Wade as unconstitutional, then reinstated it just
to piss off Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell. Many believe that the
Supreme Court is hurting its reputation with stunts like this. Chief
Justice William Rehnquist said, "Everybody just needs to lighten
up a little bit. Can't the Supreme Court have a little fun
every once in a while?"
"We conservatives are for state's rights and we decided against
them in this case. Didn't anybody figure out that we were just messing
with Gore?" said Antonin Scalia. "You should've
seen Bush's face when we told him. I wish someone had brought
a camera."
Al Gore could not be reached for immediate comment, but loud moans
could be heard coming from the Vice Presidential mansion.
